Rose and Crown, Snettisham (5 minute drive)
Very local pub that was once a coaching Inn and does delicious food with a local slant and is always very busy throughout the summer. We have had excellent reports from guests during 2010. Pub meals and a restaurant menu with specials changing daily. A number of impressive awards hang off the walls. Substantial garden with play area. Slated by A.A.Gill in the Sunday Times in early 2011 so must be good!
The Old Bank Cafe Bistro, Snettisham (5 minute drive) 01485 544080 During the day serves upmarket breakfast and light lunches as well as great afternoon teas with the added benefit of a pretty terrace garden. In the evening the menu features good simple menu choices steak, lamb, fish etc with friendly and welcoming service. They don't have an alcohol license so you can take your own along - don't worry if you have forgotten we'll help you out . It is very small so you must book!
The Neptune Old Hunstanton*(10 minute drive) Tel: 01485 532122
Husband and wife team Kevin and Jacki Mangeolles use the best seasonal produce that Norfolk has to offer; locally landed fish & lobsters, Ringstead organic pork, Sedgeford lamb, fruit from Thornham, local game and much more. Fabulous cooking has won this unpretentious restaurant a much deserved Michelin star - dishes are subtle with delicious combinations (think beetroot tart , lobster salad, loin of veal, peanut butter mousse). Prices are higher but fair. Booking essential.
The Orange Tree, Thornham* (10 minute drive)
Local restauranteur Mark and Jo Goode have been really packing them in since 2009 with great food, friendly staff and lively atmosphere. Great food could include oysters, sardines, asparagus, venison or great steaks. Almost at the top of the 'tree' in terms of local pub chic and worth a visit if you are looking for good pub food or maybe a special occasion splurge. Large outside gardens with play area. Booking advisable.
Lifeboat Inn, Thornham (15 minute drive) 01485 512236
Something of a Norfolk Institution, packed with character and local characters and now one more as Marco Pierre White has just become the landlord. Due for a full makeover this autumn with a new seafood restaurant opening. Chris Brown Marco's head chef is already hard at work in the kitchen so watch this space.
The Duck Inn, Stanhoe (10 minute drive) 01485518330 . Taken over by the owners of the Wiverton Bell in the summer of 2011 so should a good bet for a lovely meal if it is anything like it's "Norfolk dining pub of the year" sister restaurant.
The Hoste Inn, Burnham Market* (15 minute drive)
The Grand-Daddy of them all and still setting the pace for a good dinner on the Norfolk coast. Awash with local and national awards - Starters could be thai fish broth, crispy pork belly with mains of seafood, venison, spiced lamb or pink Gressingham duck. Signature dishes include oysters (oriental, tempura or rarebit) or 21 day New York steak. Best to book a couple of weeks ahead. Outside garden and in the summer a great alfresco restaurant.
The Crown Inn, East Rudham (15 minute drive) 01485 528530
Part of the ever growing chain of Kiwi Inns. Succesful formula of a comprehensive and varied menu relying on local ingredients served up in striking pub interiors. Not really an outdoor pub so less perfect for lunch on a fine summer's day. It's younger brother The Ship in Brancaster tel: 01485 210333 opened in 2010 with the same format but a tad more expensive due to the position on the coast road. Early booking for both is advisable.

Three Horseshoes, Warham* (Near Wells) (30 minute drive) 01328 710547
This very succesful pub stands four-square on the crossroads at the centre of this village and serves superb food. Well worth a visit if you are in this part of Norfolk but don't expect plush surroundings! It's bare boards and basic, but don't let that put you off.
The awards from "Good Food" to Egon Ronay to Good Pub Guide won year-in year-out are countless, and the food is always top-notch home-cooking. It does get busy in-season (and out, sometimes!) There's ample parking space in the field diagonally across the cross-roads. A three-course meal for two with wine comes out at no more than £40.

Cookie's Crab Shed, Salthouse* (40 minute drive) 01263 740352
Stephen Fry described this part of the Norfolk coast, and Cookie's in particular as his favourite place in the British Isles. A bit of a shame as some think it may have become a victim of it's own success. Still worth a stop though if you are in the area. Open from 9am to 7pm, 7 days a week for most of the year. Great fresh fish and seafood including platters, salads, sandwiches plus hot and cold drinks (It's a BYO for beer or wine) - all which may be taken away or eaten inside what is practically a shed or the garden overlooking the salt marshes. Do ring first to "reserve a table or you might find it more hectic than relaxing!"
